CSTOne of the benefit programs that helps more than 40 million Americans could receive a change that would indirectly impact their walletsThe SNAP program could have a change in its budget, after a proposal by the Republicans, something that will definitely affect families when looking to buy food in the marketsThe Donald Trump administration along with the Republicans are seeking the green light to cut spending to extend the TCJA, adding $4.5 trillion to spending. Its budget resolution calls for $2 trillion in cuts to mandatory spending (SNAP, Medicaid), and assigns specific reductions to several committees: $230 billion (Agriculture), $330 billion (Education and Labor), $880 billion (Energy and Commerce), and $50 billion (Oversight). That’s right, they are not only targeting SNAP, but also health benefit programsThe cuts would affect the House Agriculture and Energy and Commerce Committees. It is unclear whether they would impact government nutrition benefits. The resolution does not directly cut SNAP, but could allow for considerable adjustments. If Republicans manage to extend the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, they will likely have to cut funding for programs such as SNAP, Medicaid and other social services to offset the $4.5 trillion in additional spending.”States will have to raise taxes or further reduce services to make up for the decline in federal support. This will affect rural and economically disadvantaged areas, where these programs play an outsized role in supporting both individual welfare and local economies,” said Michael Ryan, an expert on the subject that worries millions of families.
