Jakarta (ANTARA) – In his opening speech at the 7th Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Annual Conference in Jakarta on Monday, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin emphasized the importance of Indonesia’s continued pursuit of green industries and digital innovations to drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Amin stressed that the development of green industries and digital innovations is crucial in meeting the current needs and addressing future challenges. He also highlighted their potential in helping Indonesia achieve environmental and social objectives, in addition to economic goals.
The vice president noted that the Indonesian government has placed special focus on green industries and digital innovations to achieve the SDGs. While the country has made significant progress, with 62.5 percent of the SDGs achieved, there is still a need to pursue the remaining 37.5 percent. Amin urged all parties to continue their commitment and hard work to realize all SDGs by 2030.
He also emphasized the role of business actors and philanthropists in creating innovations to fund SDGs-related programs, including through blended finance. Amin suggested utilizing Islamic philanthropist funds, such as zakat (alms) and waqf (endowment funds), by improving and digitizing their management.
The vice president also called on the incoming government to consider the SDGs while devising programs and policies for the 2025-2029 period, as mandated by the 2025-2049 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN). He expressed confidence that Indonesia’s success in achieving the SDGs by 2030 would help the nation achieve the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision and the net-zero emissions target by 2060 or sooner.
Amin stressed that the SDGs go beyond achieving targets and are related to efforts towards a fairer and more sustainable future. He commended National Development Planning Minister Suharso Monoarfa and all relevant parties for their commitment to achieving the SDGs.
