Validus Risk Management, a UK-based provider of market risk and capital markets solutions, has secured a $45 million growth equity investment from Californian venture capital firm FTV Capital.Validus bags $45 million FTV Capital investmentFounded in 2010, Validus provides software and technology-enabled tools to fund managers across numerous sectors including private debt, private equity, real estate, infrastructure and secondaries.Specialising in the management of commodity price, currency, and interest rate risk, Validus acts as an “extension” to over 100 clients worldwide, claiming to execute more than 3,000 trades monthly, with an annual hedging volume exceeding $330 billion. FTV’s investment has been earmarked to drive the company’s “go-to-market efforts”, propelling its expansion into the US and APAC while continuing its growth in European marketa. Moreover, the funds will be used to invest in technology and further product development.As part of the deal, FTV Capital partner Mike Cichowski will join the Validus board of directors.Commenting on the firm’s new partnership, Validus chief commercial officer Haakon Blakstad says the collaboration is about “far more than capital”, stating: “We believe that the strategic support, operating resources and network that FTV will provide are worth many times more than the investment itself.”Headquartered in San Francisco, FTV Capital has raised over $10.2 billion to invest in its portfolio of more than 140 companies. Last year, the firm reportedly resolved a legal dispute with one of its portfolio companies, Solid Financial Technologies, buying back its stake at a discounted price after a $61 million investment in 2022.
