AssetMark, a Californian wealth management technology platform, has appointed former BlackRock managing director Alex Pape as its new chief technology and product officer (CTPO), effective immediately.AssetMark unveils Alex Pape as its new CTPOReporting directly to chairman and Group CEO Lou Maiuri, Pape will lead AssetMark’s technology productisation programme, tasked with delivering advanced solutions tailored for financial advisors.According to AssetMark, CIO Muk Mehta, whose previous remit included overseeing the firm’s digital products, will now be responsible for the company’s “advanced infrastructure, security, and data strategy”.The incoming CPTO brings over 15 years of experience in tech and product development, having held senior roles at The Motley Fool, Wealthminder, and Huckleberry Capital Management.Previously, Pape served as the global head of product for BlackRock’s Aladdin Wealth Tech division during his eight-year tenure at the US asset management giant. In addition, he spent time as the firm’s head of enterprise product, head of technology for BlackRock SMA, and oversaw FutureAdvisor, which BlackRock acquired in 2015.AssetMark, which claims to serve over 9,200 financial advisors while managing $91.5 billion in platform assets, aims to tap into “Pape’s expertise in leveraging data analytics and technology” to deliver personalised portfolio solutions for advisors.Founded in 1996, AssetMark is building out its leadership team, recently appointing FS Investment’s COO Lisa Opoku and former BNY co-president Doris Meister to its board of directors.
