Nestlé Nigeria has once again demonstrated its commitment to empowering young Nigerians by providing them with essential skills through its Technical Training program. This year, more than twenty participants received scholarships and training to attain City & Guilds certifications, with the top five students given the opportunity to conclude their training with an eight-week apprenticeship in Switzerland. This program, now in its thirteenth year, aims to enhance the employability of young Nigerians in the fields of Mechanical, Electrical, and Automation Engineering.

The program, which is part of Nestlé’s global Needs Youth initiative, has been a resounding success since its inception in 2011, with an average of 10,000 applications received annually. The rigorous selection process ensures that only the most qualified candidates are chosen for the 18-month intensive training program. Upon completion, participants receive certifications in level 3, 4, and 5 of City & Guilds of London, providing them with a competitive edge in the job market.

Nestlé’s Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer for Zone Asia, Oceania, and Africa, Remy Ejel, emphasized the importance of investing in the youth of Africa, stating that “it is crucial to help the younger generations reach their full potential and support economic growth.” He also highlighted the company’s long-standing commitment to Nigeria, where it has been operating for over 60 years.

One of the program’s graduates, 25-year-old Dolapo Adedoyin Okunola, shared her experience and aspirations, stating that the program has not only enhanced her skills and knowledge but also provided her with the opportunity to learn about different cultures and languages. She also expressed her desire to become a Technical Manager in the future.

The Nestlé Technical Training Program has not only helped meet the demand for skilled labor in Nigeria but also supported the local economy and aligned with Nestlé’s broader objectives of enhancing youth employability. With the increasing youth population in Africa, initiatives like this are crucial in providing young people with the necessary skills to contribute to the continent’s economic growth and development.
