CSTThe schedule for the distribution of resources in February by the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) remains as usual, after the uncertainty caused by Donald Trump’s announcement to freeze funding for federal programs and government aid, which ultimately did not affect Social Security. The resources will arrive on time in the beneficiaries’ bank accounts, except that this month, the first day falls on a Saturday.Stimulus check: Who is eligible to receive a payment of $600 in February? As we said, this February 1 falls on a Saturday and in such cases the SSA has the following exception, which reads: “Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits are paid on the first of the month. Unless the first falls on a weekend, payments will be issued on the Friday before the first day (…) If your regularly scheduled payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, benefits will be paid on the business day prior to your due date”.If you received Social Security before May 1997 or if you receive both Social Security and SSI, Social Security is paid on the 3rd and SSI on the 1st. If you do not receive your payment on the expected date, allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security. If you are a beneficiary after that year, you will have to stick to the traditional SSI payment schedule that we explain below and which is in accordance with the SSA rules.Born between the 1st and 10th of the month: February 14.Born between the 11th and 20th of the month: February 21.Born between the 21st and 31st of the month: February 28.SSI, Supplemental Security Income, is intended for low-income people with little or no work history who are unable to work due to a medical condition. The Social Security Administration (SSA) decides the payment based on average lifetime earnings before becoming disabled, regardless of the severity of the disability.
