Hyderabad is currently hosting four major expos, focusing on Dairy, Food, Green Energy, and Green Vehicles, organized by Media Day Marketing (MDM). These events are showcasing the latest developments in sustainable industries and have drawn the attention of key figures from the Telangana government and renewable energy sectors.
The expos, which will run until December 14, are expected to attract around 15,000 visitors and feature over 100 exhibitors from various sectors. At the inaugural event, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar of Telangana inaugurated the 6th Edition of the India Green Energy Expo and the 4th Edition of the Green Vehicle Expo.
During the event, B. Ashok Kumar Goud, President of the Telangana Solar Energy Association, expressed concern over the state’s declining position in the solar energy industry. He highlighted that while Telangana was once a leader in solar energy, it no longer ranks in the top ten states in India for solar power generation. This is a cause for concern as other states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu have surpassed Telangana in solar energy investments and installations.
Rajesh Parakala, Vice President of the Telangana Solar Energy Association, also shared these concerns and emphasized the need for the state to be more proactive in promoting solar energy adoption. He suggested that the mandatory installation of solar panels on all government buildings and new commercial structures could be a step in the right direction. Additionally, he proposed that schools in the state should be required to adopt solar power to set an example for the public.
The leaders also highlighted the central government’s various subsidies and schemes, such as PM Surya Ghar, Muft Bijli Yojana, and PM-KUSUM, aimed at promoting solar energy adoption. However, Telangana has not been as active in implementing these schemes or offering incentives for solar energy adoption.
During the expo, Varcas-Ryoto Electrix introduced a groundbreaking initiative to expand clean energy infrastructure in the city. The company plans to set up 25,000 charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) at a highly affordable rate of ₹11,000 each. This initiative aims to allow small businesses, such as kirana stores, pawn shops, and tire puncture services, to set up EV charging stations and potentially earn up to ₹5,000 per month.
Overall, these expos and initiatives are crucial in promoting sustainable industries and addressing the pressing issue of climate change. The declining position of Telangana in the solar energy industry is a cause for concern, and it is essential for the state to take proactive measures to promote clean energy adoption. The introduction of affordable EV charging stations also has the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions and promote the use of electric vehicles in the city.
