Peak Energy, a Colorado-based company, is making strides in the green energy industry with their new center in Broomfield. The center is dedicated to researching and developing sodium ion batteries, which are a more accessible and safer alternative to traditional lithium batteries.

According to CEO Landon Mossburg, sodium ion batteries are not only safer, but also cheaper and more efficient. This makes them a promising option for powering homes, grids, and even cars in the future.

The expansion of Peak Energy to Broomfield was announced by Gov. Jared Polis earlier this week. Broomfield Mayor Guyleen Castriotta expressed her excitement for the new lab, stating that it aligns with the city’s goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste.

The new facility is expected to create 20 new jobs in Broomfield and will be located near universities and sectors that are involved in this type of work. This will not only benefit the local economy, but also contribute to the growth of green energy in the Front Range.

One of the challenges that Peak Energy faces is scaling up the production of sodium ion batteries. The final product is a large and heavy container, weighing 100,000 pounds and measuring 29 feet long. However, the company is determined to overcome this obstacle and plans to start working with customers next year.

Peak Energy also aims to source more of this technology from Colorado and other parts of the U.S. in the future. They believe that their technology will be one of the leading options in the industry and want to stay ahead of the game.

Overall, the expansion of Peak Energy’s center in Broomfield is a positive development for the green energy industry. With their innovative technology and commitment to sustainability, they are making strides towards a greener and more affordable future for everyone.
