Automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) should adopt environmentally friendly practices, invest in green technologies and integrate renewable energy into their operations in order to drive innovation, said deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
By embracing sustainability in vehicle design, production and more, OEMs contribute not only to preserving the environment, but also to build an ecosystem that is ready for the future and thrive in the global market, said the deputy prime minister.
“As chair of ASEAN in 2025, Malaysia is poised to champion renewable energy transitions as a regional priority. This collective effort further underscores our commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Together, we can propel Malaysia to the forefront of the global automotive industry, paving the way for a future that is green, innovative and inclusive,” he said at the Malaysia Car of The Year 2024 awards.

The number of electric vehicle charging stations in Malaysia is expected to reach 4,000 units by this year, and this number is expected to reach 10,000 units nationwide by 2030, Fadillah said in October. Earlier in 2021, the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021-2030 outlined a target of reaching 10,000 EV chargers by the end of 2025.
