New York State is taking bold steps to power its clean energy future by investing a hefty $45 million into apprenticeships and training programs. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in the clean energy workforce by building a diverse and skilled pipeline of workers.The New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) has teamed up with the Finishing Trades Institute of New York, part of the painters and allied trades union, to spearhead this effort. The initiative focuses on various aspects of clean energy development including renewable power generation, building electrification, and clean transportation.The push comes as the clean energy sector sees explosive job growth. According to recent reports, employment in this sector surged in 2023, with over 178,000 jobs—a 7.9% increase from the previous year.
