Ethan Swope/APMore than 5 million U.S. residents are expected to move away from areas being affected by climate change in 2025, according to a report released Monday.Climate migration could accelerate over the next 30 years, when nearly 15 percent of the U.S. population is expected to relocate to escape the risk of flooding, extreme heat, drought and wildfire smoke.Major cities and inland states such as the Dakotas would continue to attract residents who flee the Atlantic and Gulf coasts and fire-prone areas in the West, said the report by First Street, a climate modeling firm. Climate change is also expected to significantly depress real estate values as property insurers increase rates to account for rising damage.“Climate change is transforming the U.S. housing market,” the report says.GET FULL ACCESS
