CSTSupplemental Security Income is an initiative in the United States hoping to offer extra cash to people aged 65+ or living with disabilities so they can fend of the rising costs of living. But there is an eligibility limit, so how much can you make per month and still qualify for SSI?Income limits include wages, benefits, and pensions as well as housing and food, and if you are considered to be earning too much by the Social Security Administration then you will not be given SSI. This allows the SSA to budget appropriately. There are exceptions to the limit such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), rent rebates or property tax refunds, Section 8 housing vouchers and State SSI supplement payments. There are also some expenses for the blind and disabled.Additionally, your home (and land it’s on), one vehicle, most personal belongings and household goods and unsellable or unusable properties are also excluded from income limits. An individual adult can qualify for SSI provided they make no more than $2,020 per month from a job (prior to taxes and deductions), and that they earn no more than $988 from non-work income such as pensions or unemployment benefits.Married couples living and filing together will remain below the income limit if they do not earn more than $2985 combined per month from work, and if they earn less than $1,471 per month from non-work resources. There is also a $2,000 resource limit for individuals, which rises to $3000 for couples. If you’re a parent applying for a child, these numbers increase by $2,000.Those who are younger than 65 can still apply for SSI support but there are conditions they must meet in order to be accepted, along with a income limit of $1,549 for the month of the application to the SSA.A person 64 or younger must have a disability that affects the ability to work for a year or more and will result in death. For children, the death policy is relaxed to just severely limiting daily activity.
