Grant Public Utility District (PUD) in EPHRATA has given the green light to a five-year Purchase Power Agreement with Goose Prairie Solar Development. This move secures a significant addition to the utility’s renewable energy portfolio. Under the agreement, Grant PUD will have exclusive access to 100% of the energy and capacity generated by an 80-megawatt solar facility in Moxee, Washington.
The decision to enter into this agreement was prompted by Grant PUD’s recent all-source request for new power generation resources. With the demand for energy on the rise, the utility is committed to meeting the needs of its growing customer base. The 80 megawatts from Goose Prairie will make up a substantial portion of the 120 megawatts of solar energy that Grant PUD plans to add to its portfolio by 2026.
This new solar capacity will not only support the utility’s customer growth but also contribute to the integration of renewable energy. By diversifying its energy sources, Grant PUD is taking a step towards a more sustainable future. This aligns with the utility’s mission to provide reliable and affordable energy while reducing its carbon footprint.
According to recent data, solar energy is one of the fastest-growing sources of renewable energy in the United States. With this new addition, Grant PUD is positioning itself as a leader in the industry and setting an example for other utilities to follow.
The 80-megawatt solar facility in Moxee is expected to be operational by 2022 and will provide clean energy to thousands of homes and businesses in the region. This not only benefits the environment but also contributes to the local economy by creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.
Grant PUD’s commitment to renewable energy is a testament to its dedication to providing sustainable and reliable energy solutions for its customers. With this new Purchase Power Agreement, the utility is taking a significant step towards a cleaner and greener future.
