ENERCON, a leading wind turbine manufacturer, has once again demonstrated its commitment to the expansion of onshore wind energy in Türkiye. At the German-Turkish Energy Forum in Berlin on November 27, ENERCON signed a letter of intent with Turkish energy companies Is Enerji and Polat Enerji to install an additional 2500 MW of onshore capacity.

The signing ceremony, which took place in the presence of German Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck and Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, marks a significant milestone in the partnership between ENERCON and its Turkish counterparts. In the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the parties have agreed to jointly develop onshore projects in Turkey and neighboring countries with a total capacity of 2500 MW over the next five years. As part of this collaboration, ENERCON will provide the turbine technology and long-term service for the wind farms to be constructed.

The new top model from ENERCON, the E-175 EP5, will be utilized in this partnership. With a rotor diameter of 175 meters and a rated power of 6-7 MW, this turbine is currently one of the most powerful and efficient onshore turbines in Europe. The scope of delivery for this collaboration is expected to include at least 350 wind turbines.

“We are excited to continue our contribution to the energy transition in Türkiye,” said ENERCON CEO Udo Bauer. “This partnership with Is Enerji and Polat Enerji represents a new milestone in onshore wind expansion in Türkiye. We are also pleased to see the strong political support for renewable energy in the country, as onshore wind is a crucial component of a sustainable energy system.”

Neset Özgür Cireli, Board Member of Polat Enerji, added, “We have already seen the reliability and robustness of ENERCON wind turbines in our existing projects. With over 740 MW of installed capacity and 130 MW under construction or development, we are committed to advancing wind energy in Türkiye and other countries where Polat Energy Europe invests and develops projects.”

Kayahan Karadas, CEO of Is Enerji and Board Member of Polat Enerji, also expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are proud to have ENERCON as our main supplier and see this agreement as the first step towards a new beginning.”

This collaboration brings together three companies that are pioneers in the wind industry, and it is a testament to the growing importance of renewable energy in Türkiye and beyond. With its advanced technology and strong partnerships, ENERCON is well-positioned to continue driving the energy transition and promoting sustainable development in the region.
