(AP Photo/Alex Brandon)(Alex Brandon / AP)Ladies and gentlemen of the jury: The prosecution calls the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Secretary of Health and Human Services a threat to our national health. He is dangerous, they say. But a fair trial allows the defense to put on its case. In his defense, you will hear from four remarkable witnesses and Mr. Kennedy himself. But let us first address the underlying indictment. The charges come from food and health care industries that have seen an estimated 41.9% of adults become obese. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that 14.7% of adults are now diabetic, and childhood diabetes is on the rise. According to Yale Medicine, “cancer is occurring in more adults at younger ages — before they turn 40 or 50 and sometimes even earlier.”The charges against Mr. Kennedy come from agencies that approved groceries like Froot Loops and Mountain Dew, which contain chemicals banned in European countries. The charges come from health care professionals who stood silent while free pizza, doughnuts, hamburgers and fries were public inducements to take the COVID-19 vaccine. Yet there is evidence the high-sugar, high-salt, high-chemical makeup of such processed foods compromises the very immune systems that were under siege. The prosecution’s charges are suspect. The witnesses supporting Mr. Kennedy are extraordinary.First, the defense will call supporters of death row inmate Robert Roberson III. Tried for the death of his daughter, Roberson’s conviction arguably turned on “shaken-baby syndrome.” The Dallas Morning News describes this as a “now-discredited theory [that] said certain injuries, now known to have multiple causes, were conclusive proof of child abuse.” In full disclosure, both the Texas attorney general and the jury foreman have stated that blunt-force trauma was actually the basis for conviction. Nonetheless, many people are concerned with any weight given at trial to the dubious scientific theory.Roberson’s case reminds us that science is not always indelibly written and unquestionably correct. Grave harm can result from forgetting that yesterday’s orthodoxy might be tomorrow’s “junk science.”Second, you will hear from the entire continent of Africa, specifically on the COVID vaccine. Africa was greatly undervaccinated during the pandemic. Yet, all of its countries except South Africa — the most westernized — have fared much better against the virus than the U.S.A 2021 study in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health posited that many African nations “attenuated the spread and impacts early on” through “early government community-wide actions, population distribution, social contacts, and ecology of human habitation.” Other researchers have su
