CSTIf you’re a veteran or service member with a service-connected disability that limits your ability to work, the Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) program, formerly known as Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, offers support to help you achieve your career and independence goals. This VA program provides several services to help you explore employment options and gain the necessary skills or education for a stable job.To qualify for VR&E services, you must meet certain criteria, including a service-connected disability rating of at least 10% and a discharge that is not dishonorable. If you’re still on active duty, you may also be eligible, particularly if you have a disability rating or are recovering from a severe injury.Once you apply for VR&E, a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC) will evaluate your needs and determine your eligibility. The benefits and services you receive will depend on your specific situation, including your ability to work and your career goals.Services provided under VR&E can include:Comprehensive Evaluations: Assessing your abilities, interests, and skills to help determine suitable employment options.Vocational Counseling: Guiding you in developing a plan for training, education, or job placement.Employment Services: Offering job search assistance, resume development, and other work-readiness support.On-the-Job Training: Providing opportunities for apprenticeships or unpaid work experiences to help you gain practical skills.Education and Training: Covering post-secondary education at colleges or vocational schools, helping you advance in your chosen career.Independent Living Support: If you’re unable to return to work right away, services are available to help you live as independently as possible. The program also offers several service tracks tailored to your needs, including the Reemployment Track for returning to a former job, the Rapid Access to Employment Track for job searches, and the Self-Employment Track for starting your own business.Whether you need help finding a new career, further education, or support to live independently, VR&E services can provide the resources you need to reach your goals.
